Ant 234 week 3 dq 2

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses.

Peer   Collaboration

This week you will discuss the symbolic elements of your two chosen cultures, focusing on language, religion, and then the family structure. The list of cultures, including resources, can be accessed through the Library Resource Guide. First, describe the language and religious beliefs in the cultures. Then, discuss the family structure: What does a family look like in your chosen cultures? Use the concepts from chapter four of your textbook, such as patrilineal or matrilineal descent, monogamy versus polygamy and others as relevant. If appropriate, you may classify your chosen cultures on the Cultural Types spectrum developed by Mary Douglass, figure 4.1-4.4 in the textbook.

Part of your Final Project will be submitted using YouSeeU. To familiarize yourself with this software, you will submit your initial post as a link to a YouSeeU recording. To learn how to use YouSeeU, click on the YouSeeU User Guide. Provide one to two slides and two to four minutes of narration. This is an opportunity to experiment with the software, with slides and oral presentation, so that you become confident before submitting your Final Project.

Guided Response: Respond to at least two peers. Ask one question about their chosen culture that you would like to know more about. Try to politely and constructively address it if a peer has not fully embraced a concept or has somewhat misunderstood it. For your peer responses, you will respond within the discussion forum. You will not use YouSeeU for peer responses.
