Healthcare services are increasing at higher level with the increase in level of technologies. In order to complete this research paper, we are taking mental healthcare episode and apply the SPO model of quality management.
SPO is the model which is mainly used by the healthcare department for quality management. SPO model includes three elements such as structure, process and outcome. All these elements are inter-related with each other (Jenkins, 2010). Effective structure of the service is useful in developing appropriate process and also leads to the efficient outcome.
In case of mental healthcare episode, healthcare organization develops the structure in which they should include healthy and supportive environment. Along with this all the staff members such as nurses and doctors should also treat and cooperate with their patience effectively thus they should be appointed with appropriate skills and knowledge. In addition of this all the rooms have sufficient beds and medical facilities. It is identified that mentally ill people needs extra support, which is helpful in recover their illness earliest (Jenicek, 2010).
Healthcare department should also take care of cleanliness and proper sanitation facilities. Similarly they can also use advanced technological equipment, so that they can serve large number of patient within limited time period. Advanced technology also helps in getting reputation of organization in order to provide better and high technological services. Equipment should also check on weekly basis to avoid any discrepancy at the time of treatment (Soar, Perkins & Nolan, 2012).
After completing the structure of mental healthcare services, it is necessary to develop an appropriate process. In this process doctors and healthcare professionals should provide sufficient time to their patients, so that patient can go for check-up at any time (Jenkins, 2010).
Moreover in case of emergency, process of reaching to the higher level doctors should be smooth. All the classes such as lower, middle and higher level patients should get equal time and equal treatment (Carlstedt, 2012). It is identified that, most of the healthcare organization firstly complete there formalities and then they provide diagnosis facilities irrespective of focusing towards patient problem.
Thus, this process should be changed and patient should first get treatment, so that healthcare organization at global level should be able to reduce the mental illness issues. It is identified that, process of treating the mental people should be efficient. Firstly, they should be treated with care and respect rather than medicines (Jenicek, 2010). It is because sometimes patient at initial level get more disturbed, if they do not get respect. Secondly, if patient is having major problem than doctors should move towards medicines (Soar, Perkins & Nolan, 2012).
Electric shocks and admitting the patient in mental hospital should be considered at last stage. This process is useful in understanding the issues with mental patients and reducing the number of patients all over the world (Jenicek, 2010).
Above mentioned process is useful in reaching towards effective outcome. It is identified that there are some good outcome and some are bad outcomes. In order to determine the good and bad outcomes, healthcare organizations should adopt Total Quality Management tool. It is the method in which organization identify every department and its quality of functions. With the help of this healthcare department can be able to analyse the problem areas and accordingly take necessary steps (Buchbinder & Shanks, 2011).
At the same time organization can also conduct market research for analysing the effectiveness of its structure and process in the external environment. Similarly healthcare professionals can also take feedbacks from their patients about the services. All these methods are helpful in identifying the good and bad outcomes in this organization (Wager, Lee & Glaser, 2013).
By using the above mentioned structure and process, healthcare department is able to achieve some positive outcomes such as reduction in mental illness and decrease in emergency cases. Apart from mental department, other departments such as, diabetes, cancer, obesity etc. will also improve their SPO model (Buchbinder & Thompson, 2010).
