Social Issues

At its heart, much of social psychology is about attempting to solve important social issues. One particular peer-reviewed journal, the Journal of Social Issues, is focused on this goal. Each issue of this journal is focused on a different social problem. Recent issues have examined social psychological approaches to studying hate crimes, euthanasia, affirmative action, youth violence, and inequalities in higher education. Each issue begins with an article prepared by the editors of that particular issue. This introductory article provides background on the social issue and on key social psychological perspectives that are relevant to the problem. The introductory article provides a brief summary of the contents of each article in the issue (which typically number 8 to 10). For this term paper assignment: Select one particular issue of the Journal of Social Issues that are of interest to you. Summarize and discuss the introductory article and at least two other articles from the same issue of the journal (e.g., Volume 63, Issue 1). Do not plagiarize! i.e., use your own words; do not use direct quotes unless absolutely necessary, and if you do use quotes, make sure you cite the authors and page number: e.g., Miller & Saucier, 2016, p. 217). Your paper should be no less than 1,500 words and no more than 2,000 words long. Include an APA style reference list at the end of your paper (not included in the word count) of the articles you selected. At the end of your paper, include a 450-500 word description of a study you would conduct (use the intro chapters of the text to help you think of how to run these studies) to further this line of research. Identify the Research Question, Hypotheses, Study Design (i.e., correlational, experimental, quasi-experimental, etc), and implications. The big questions you should answer are: Why would I do this? What will I do? What do I expect to find? Why are these findings important? Accessing articles (DO NOT PAY FOR ARTICLES – K-State already pays for them and you will have access by following these directions) You can browse and search for issues on the journal’s website: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)1540-4560 (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
