The PLUS Model

MODEL: You will apply the PLUS model of decision making to the event discussed in Week 3’s Letter to the Editor.  As you may recall, from this week’s readings, the PLUS ethical decision-making model is an astute ethical decision-making model grounded in the following questions: A. P – Policies and Procedures. Is the decision in line with the policies laid out by the company? B. L – Legal. Will this violate any legal parameters or regulations?C. U – Universal. How does this relate to the values and principles established for the organization to operate? Is it in tune with core values and the company culture?  How about the cultures we serve and interact with daily? D. S – Self. Does it meet my standards of fairness and justice? Make sure you are familiar with the PLUS model before engaging this week’s assignment. Preparation task.  Remember how Week 3’s assignment asked you to keep all your notes, diagrams, and other artifacts?  You will need them for this assignment! Refresh your memory about Week 3’s assignment and the event discussed in the Letter to the Editor. Your goal.  Your goal is to apply the PLUS model of decision making to the event discussed in Week 3’s Letter to the Editor; then produce a letter to yourself explaining whether the PLUS model indicated potentially better (more ethical and fair) choices than you made while experiencing the event. Work through the event using the seven steps of the PLUS ethical decision-making model.  Take careful notes of what you figure out while using the PLUS model! After working through the event using the PLUS model, ask yourself: A. Did the PLUS model suggest alternative choices and decisions I failed to consider?B. Did I make the right choice considering the PLUS model?C. Do I wish I could go back in time and make a different choice?  Why or why not? Create a letter (approximately 3-5 pages) to yourself about what you learned while working on this assignment.
